Does anyone know of any independent music consultants or A&R Reps in California that focus on clical music?

I have been composing music of all genres for a while and I have recently been thinking about making a demo cd of my clical music to attempt to make some money with it, but I have noticed that most music publishers, A&R Reps, etc. don't accept unsolicited demos...basically, if they didn't ask for it, they send it back...since this is the case, would I be wise to call them up first and ask if I can send in my demo rather than just sending it without telling them?
