Boric Acid as been banned in Japan and other countries so why is it in my eye drops?

I have no idea I have used it in my eyes many times over the years to help with pink eye as well as conjunctivitis, old timers always used it I have treated 3or 4 cats eyes infected after cat fights they are probably trying to get rid of it because it is cheap and it works, anything that interferes with big drug company's profits gets the axe.
