Quick fix for HOT computer?

I have a Vaio S series 220. It gets REALLY hot. I cant actually use it as a "lap" top, but have to place it on something. Any remedies to cool down the underbelly without buying a cooler pad (which needs to be plugged in typically). I went to fry's and they had a laptop pad that only covered a small area (which was too small)
